Kristy M. Mixon

kristy@destinyoflouisiana.com

Kristy has been a performer and recording artist since the age of one. Her first  single was Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star which was recorded by her grandfather Jim Dunham! By age eight, she was performing at churches and other family functions. It was no surprise that by age nine she had mastered the art of singing harmony. Her weekends were filled with music due to the many family members that are in the music business (Uncle Steve Dougay formally of The Lifters now of Chris Miller and Bayou Roots) or just played for personal pleasure. Her parents Charles & Sherrie Dougay, family members and friends would get together and sing for hours at churches, family functions or just sitting on a front porch with family and friends.

Kristy started singing professionally in 2000, after she walked into a local studio to record an album for her family and friends. This is where she met Ted which offered her a position in his band Fantasy (which is also known as "Steel Toe Cowboy"). She accepted the offer, became a member and traveled with the group for 4 years playing casinos, festivals and many other events. Kristy has been involved in numerous recordings and worked with some of the most talented local musicians in Louisiana.

In 2004 she left Fantasy and became part of the "The New Gospel Travelers" in which her then boyfriend Terry Mixon played. Together they traveled the lower southern states from Texas to Florida playing concerts at churches, fairs, festivals and revival events.

Kristy also joined Destiny of Louisiana in 2004, this enhanced the group's already popular sound with a female touch that only she could bring. With her sultry R & B bluesy voice she brought a new dimension to the groups performance. As a part of Destiny she has played many different venues, weddings , festivals , fairs and private parties.

Kristy loves all styles of music, but her favorites is R & B and soul. She looks up to such artist as Aretha Franklin and Irma Thomas. She has also been inspired by the country sounds of such artists as Patsy Cline and Wynonna Judd.

Kristy and Terry were wed in 2005 and became one, with the addition of four children (Maddy, Summer, Keith, Aubrey and Molly Rose (Family dog)) they make up a family. On Valentines Day 2006 they were blessed by the arrival Logan Michael Mixon, now they truly have the "Your's, Mine and Our collection of kids" that movies are made about, but they have one love for all. With the success of her family and Destiny she has come full circle and looks forward to sharing her love for God, family and music with anyone who will listen.
