Terry started playing guitar at the age of 13 with his musician father Jerry Mixon and cousin Dennis Mixon. He cut his
teeth on county, blues, oldies and swamp pop. During his time in school he played in several bands and honed his skill as a guitar
and bass player.
After
graduation in 1984 Terry left for New Orleans where he joined the music union
and had the opportunity to play bass guitar with the Royal Orleans Jazz Band and
played guitar at “My Father’s Mustache” club on Bourbon Street after
hours. This is where he met Pake McIntire (Reba’s brother) who asked him to
join him in Atlantic City to play a tour of the casino circuit for 6 months. On returning home after the
tour end he decided to stick around the area and play music until 1988.
This is when joined local gospel group The Singing Cavilers, with Bill Hines at in
the lead, he traveled Louisiana, Texas, Mississippi and Alabama playing Southern Gospel. In the group he played guitar, engineered the sound
and sang tenor and lead vocals. This lasted until 1990 when Bill fell ill with cancer.
In 1990 Terry met Bill Ray and formed “The End of The Road Band”. A 4 piece group that played country, southern rock and oldies. They were in great
demand and played music around Louisiana. The group opened for Percy Sledge, Van Broussard and The Coasters just to name a
few. The group had grown to 6 pieces by 1996, this is when the decision was made
by majority to change the name of the group to Destiny of Louisiana and start playing more Louisiana style of music. Destiny of
Louisiana is the current group that he is playing in.
In 1998 Terry played music with the touring gospel group “The New Gospel
Travelers”. He traveled with the group when not playing with Destiny of Louisiana.
During their travels he had the opportunity to play dates in Austin,TX -
Nashville,TN - Houston,TX - Mobile,AL and many states, towns, cities, communities in between.
To his credit he is also an accomplished studio electronic, recording and mastering
engineer, live sound engineer, session player on bass and guitar. He has
engineered sound for Aaron Neville, Chuck Berry, Billy Jo Royal and many local
artist.
Terry has been blessed with wife Kristy and 5 children, Keith(21), Aubrey(19),
Summer(16), Maddy(9) and Logan(2).You may remember seeing the names Kristy and
Aubrey as they are currently members of Destiny of Louisiana. He works as contract Technical Account Manager at a local goverment division.
